School’s too hard? Or too easy?

We help learners to flourish in confidence and ability

Our teaching resources – what do we use to help your child?

The short answer is: anything we can get our hands on! We have access to a vast range of resources suitable for the NZ Curriculum, and we’re adding to it all the time. Some resources are available to us via special license, and others have been collected or created during 20+ years of teaching. We use colourful and visual online ‘pages’ that your child can ‘draw’ on online, or they can choose to download to write on by hand. We DON’T follow a prescribed set of materials in a set order. As experienced teachers, we access materials from many NZ sources, and plan for each lesson and each child. No two lesson plans are ever the same.

Our online lesson spaces

Every learning environment and community has its own special character, and we are proud of the way ACE students are purposeful, settled, confident and enthusiastic. School can become a hectic experience for some students. We provide an alternative online lesson space of quiet focus with one-to-one teacher support. It gets results!

Visit our example lesson space created especially for visitors – it’s filled with a variety of resources and examples. In your child’s own personalised lesson space, they meet with their teacher to work on their own specially chosen tasks.

Our teachers

Our teachers have a range of training and experience that covers both the primary and secondary curriculum. Their average length of experience is over 20 years, and they have successfully helped hundreds of Year 1 – Year 13 students achieve in the areas of Maths, English, Spelling, Writing, Reading and Science. For our Year 10-13 Maths, Chemistry and Biology students we offer a combination: High-School trained and experienced tutors, and experienced university student tutors who have specialist subject knowledge. Our Year 10-13 students love having knowledgeable tutors who are close in age! The relationship formed between a student and their teacher is vital for effective teaching, so we always aim to build trust and offer a positive, empowering learning experience.

ACE is overseen by directors Katherine and Evan Barker, New Zealand trained and registered teachers with combined experience teaching primary, secondary and tertiary level in New Zealand and overseas. They have two grown children –  one at University and one an Engineering graduate.

Katherine loves assisting both juniors and seniors at ACE with their English, and helping struggling primary maths learners to grasp key concepts using visual materials. Katherine is a New Zealand registered and experienced primary school teacher. She comes from a science research background and is also a published author and an experienced ESL teacher. She has taught English language, literature and grammar from pre-school through to tertiary level in New Zealand and Hong Kong.

Evan’s skills are in language and maths. He is Deputy Principal in a North-West school and is well known for helping his students excel in these areas. Evan has taught primary school students in New Zealand and secondary students in New Caledonia and Hong Kong, and lends his extensive ESL teaching, special educational needs and educational management experience to ACE.

We love teaching and we can help your child get results!

We look forward to meeting your child or teen.
